Norges vassdrags- og energidirektorat, linked to every property.

Norges vassdrags- og energidirektorat (NVE) is the government agency for water and energy resources. It supplies a broad portfolio of risk and infrastructure data to Placepoint. NVE reports to the Ministry of Energy and manages, among other things, the national landslide database, quick clay zones, flood hazard maps, storm surge, building ban zones along power lines, existing and planned grid installations, hydropower, wind power, watercourses and catchments, water bodies, protected watercourses and radon probability.

What Norges vassdrags- og energidirektorat gives you

The data, and what it decides

For a developer or development team, NVE's data is often decisive at the zoning stage. Quick clay and landslide zones can trigger extensive stability assessments and mitigation measures. Building ban zones along power lines set clear limits on where you can build. Flood and storm surge hazard zones can trigger requirements for raised ground levels or other structural solutions. NVE is also the licensing authority for power generation and grid installations, and its data feeds the map layers for risk, water and energy.

Noregs vassdrags- og energidirektorat (NVE) reports to the Ministry of Energy (ED) and is responsible for managing the country's water and energy resources. NVE also carries out the state's administrative tasks in landslide prevention.

Registers, maps and services as the vendor publishes them.

Collection

We collect from the source, not from a copy of a copy, as often as the source is updated.

Normalisation

Linked to cadastre number and Organization Number, quality-assured, with source and date on every field.

Your workspace

Map, property panel, reports, Placepoint API and MCP.

Why Norges vassdrags- og energidirektorat in Placepoint

The register is free. The time it takes to use it is not.

Landslides, floods and quick clay on one plot

NVE's hazard zones and susceptibility maps sit as map layers over the property, so your risk assessment is one review instead of three portals.

Building ban zones before you design

Zones along power lines and grid installations show on the map, so you know where you can build before the feasibility study.

30 datasets from one agency

From storm surge and radon to hydropower, wind power and catchments. All with NVE as the source and a date on each field.

Straight into your credit model

You can also fetch natural hazards per property programmatically through the Placepoint API at /properties/{country}/{cadastreId}/risks.

The datasets

21 datasets from Norges vassdrags- og energidirektorat

Each dataset follows its source's update schedule, shown for that dataset. The category is the map layer group the dataset sits under in Fusion.

How to get started

Frequently asked questions

Questions about the Norges vassdrags- og energidirektorat data

Ask a question
Are susceptibility maps the same as hazard zones?

No. Susceptibility maps show where a hazard may exist and trigger a requirement for further assessment. Hazard zone maps are mapped in detail and show where the hazard actually is. Placepoint shows both, and the layer name tells you which one you are looking at.

How often is NVE's data updated?

We pull data from NVE's services continuously. The table above shows how often each dataset is updated, which follows NVE's own publishing schedule.

Does the quick clay map cover the whole country?

No. The quick clay zones cover the areas NVE has mapped, mainly below the marine border. Outside mapped areas, the absence of a zone does not mean there is no quick clay. The marine border from NGU is a separate layer that shows where quick clay can occur.

Can I get an alert when a hazard zone changes?

Yes. Monitoring in Fusion follows the properties and areas in your project and alerts you when the map layers that apply to the site change.

How up to date is the data from Norges vassdrags- og energidirektorat?

The table above shows how often each dataset is updated, which follows the source. Every field in Placepoint shows its source and date.

Can we use the data from Norges vassdrags- og energidirektorat in our own systems?

Yes. The Placepoint API exposes the same datasets programmatically, and the MCP server makes them available to AI agents. You can export extracts and reports from the platform.
