Norsk institutt for bioøkonomi, linked to every property and ready to use.

Norsk institutt for bioøkonomi (NIBIO) is Norway's leading research institute for agriculture, food, environment, soil and forest. It manages the national land resource map (AR5), which is the basis for land type and arable land in Placepoint. AR5 classifies each plot by its main land resource: forest, cultivated land, pasture, built-up land, water or bare land. It is the authoritative source when municipalities, developers and managers need to know whether a property contains farmland protected under the Land Act (jordlova).

What Norsk institutt for bioøkonomi gives you

The data, and what it decides

For a developer, AR5 is often a deciding factor when assessing a site. Cultivated and cultivable land has strong protection and can in practice rule out development without an exemption. For a planner, it is the simplest way to see how much farmland is part of a zoning proposal, which is reflected in the agriculture map layer. NIBIO has 15 offices across the country and publishes much of its data openly through Geonorge.

Norsk institutt for bioøkonomi (NIBIO) carries out research and provides knowledge on food and plant production, the environment, maps, land use, genetic resources, forestry, and business, industrial and social economics. We are based in 15 locations from north to south in Norway.
