What the dataset contains
Wine monopoly in Placepoint
All Vinmonopolet stores in Norway: about 350 at the end of 2022. Vinmonopolet is the state retail monopoly for stronger alcoholic drinks (over 4.7% alcohol by volume), and its coverage is deliberately set by political decision: 94% of the population live in a municipality with its own store, and 98% live in a municipality with a store or less than 30 km from the nearest one. Between 2000 and 2019, Vinmonopolet opened around 220 new stores, an average of 10 per year. Supplied by Geodata AS, with Brønnøysundregistrene's Central Coordinating Register for Legal Entities as the underlying source.
For commercial estate agents in regional markets, a Vinmonopolet store is a well-known sign that a municipality serves as a local centre. For residential developers, proximity to a store is a moderate attraction factor. Part of Placepoint's map layers for business. Related: Grocery Chains, Pharmacies.
