What the dataset contains

Cultural heritage - Askeladden WMS in Placepoint

Cultural heritage - Askeladden WMS from Askeladden, the national cultural heritage database managed by Riksantikvaren (the Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage). The dataset covers the full range of cultural heritage values:

Automatically protected cultural heritage (everything older than 1537, the Reformation cut-off) under section 4 of the Cultural Heritage Act (kulturminneloven)

Cultural heritage and cultural environments from modern times, protected by decision or by regulation

Temporarily protected heritage and ongoing protection cases

Buildings and environments worth preserving locally, without formal protection but on a national or municipal list

Cultural heritage protected under the Planning and Building Act through consideration zones

For a developer, cultural heritage data is a required check at the zoning stage. An automatically protected heritage site on or below ground can in practice stop a development or lead to costly archaeological excavations under section 9 of the Cultural Heritage Act. For home buyers, a protected building can mean both limits on alterations and special rights (grants, exemption from some building regulations). Part of Placepoint's nature map layers (conservation interests). Related: Gule lister (the Byantikvaren's municipal registers), Nature and cultural areas.
