What Riksantikvaren gives you

The data, and what it decides

For a property developer, cultural heritage data is a required check at the zoning stage. An automatically protected cultural heritage site on or below ground can in practice stop development or trigger costly archaeological excavations under section 9 of the Cultural Heritage Act. For a home buyer, a protected building can mean limits on alterations and maintenance requirements, but also grants and special rights. The cultural heritage layer is part of the nature map layer.

Riksantikvaren works to preserve and manage Norway's cultural environments and landscapes for future generations. We are the Directorate for Cultural Heritage and report to the Ministry of Climate and Environment.

Riksantikvaren

Registers, maps and services as the vendor publishes them.

Collection

We collect from the source, not from a copy of a copy, as often as the source is updated.

Normalisation

Linked to cadastre number and Organization Number, quality-assured, with source and date on every field.

Your workspace

Map, property panel, reports, Placepoint API and MCP.

Why Riksantikvaren in Placepoint

The register is free. The time it takes to use it is not.

One lookup, not one portal per source

Riksantikvaren is one of 37 vendors. The data sits on the property alongside registers, plans and risk data from the others.

Linked to the right property

We link the data to the cadastre number before you open the map. No keys, no import.

Updated when the source is

Updates follow the source: real time. Each field shows its date.

Traceable back to the source

Each dataset lists Riksantikvaren as the vendor, so you can document your sources in a report.

The datasets

1 dataset from Riksantikvaren

Each dataset follows its source's update schedule, shown for that dataset. The category is the map layer group the dataset sits under in Fusion.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about the Riksantikvaren data

Ask a question
How up to date is the data from Riksantikvaren?

The table above shows how often each dataset is updated, which follows the source. Every field in Placepoint shows its source and date.

Can we use the data from Riksantikvaren in our own systems?

Yes. The Placepoint API exposes the same datasets programmatically, and the MCP server makes them available to AI agents. You can export extracts and reports from the platform.

Does it cost extra?

The datasets are part of your Placepoint subscription. Where the source charges a fee for individual documents, such as registered documents from Kartverket, the price follows the source's fee.

Are we missing a source you use?

Tell us at support@placepoint.no. We add sources all the time, often because a customer asked for one we did not have.
