Svenska kommuner, linked to every property.

Sweden is divided into 290 municipalities, and the municipalities, not a national agency, decide planning and building cases. Each municipality's building committee (byggnadsnämnd) handles and approves building permits (bygglov), and the municipal planning office (planeringskontor) prepares and adopts its own detailed development plans (detaljplaner) and comprehensive plans (översiktsplaner) under the Planning and Building Act (plan- och bygglagen).

What Svenska kommuner gives you

The data, and what it decides

There is no national case register that brings these decisions together. Each municipality keeps its own cases in its own system, and much of the content, from applications to decisions and illustrations, exists only as case documents in the municipality's own public records list. That is why Combify has to collect the data from each of the 290 municipalities separately: building permits from the building committees, detailed development plans with their documents from the planning offices, and land allocations (markanvisningar) from the land and development offices. The data covers more than 620,000 municipal cases, including more than 500,000 building permits and nearly 120,000 detailed development plans, built on more than 100 terabytes of case documents (see Placepoint in numbers).

In Norway, the municipalities are also responsible: both countries handle planning and building cases at municipal level, and neither has a national case register that collects the decisions themselves. The difference is what exists outside the municipality. In Norway, Kartverket publishes nationwide copies of municipal zoning plans, municipal plans and building data through geosynchronisation, so one source covers every municipality in the country. Sweden has no such national copy of planning data. Because there is no single source, Combify has to build its coverage of all 290 municipalities one municipality at a time, rather than fetching it from one place.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about the Svenska kommuner data

Ask a question
How up to date is the data from Svenska kommuner?

The table above shows how often each dataset is updated, which follows the source. Every field in Placepoint shows its source and date.

Can we use the Svenska kommuner data in our own systems?

Yes. The Placepoint API exposes the same datasets programmatically, and the MCP server makes them available to AI agents. You can export extracts and reports from the platform.

Does it cost extra?

The datasets are part of your Placepoint subscription. Where the source charges a fee for individual documents, such as registered documents from Kartverket, the price follows the source's fee.

Are we missing a source you use?

Tell us at support@placepoint.no. We add sources all the time, often because a customer asked for one we did not have.
