Building Research Establishment (BRE) is a British research organisation founded in 1921. It manages BREEAM, the most widely used environmental certification scheme for buildings in Norway. The Norwegian version, BREEAM-NOR, is run by Grønn Byggallianse under licence from BRE. Today it is the standard choice for new buildings and major refurbishments where the developer wants to document sustainability to lenders, tenants and buyers.

For Placepoint, BREEAM certification means a commercial building has documented qualities beyond the Norwegian building technical regulations in areas such as energy performance, choice of materials, indoor climate and location. BREEAM status is shown together with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel (Svanemerket) and LEED in the Environmental Certifications dataset. This is useful for valuation, finding tenants and ESG reporting.

Founded in 1921 as a profit-for-purpose business, BRE develops and administers BREEAM, its market-leading sustainability standard, and provides independent third-party certification for fire, security and environmental products and services.
